The following is a testimonal by Jennifer Price, a well known Nutritionist from Dubbo in NSW. She has recently come accross our sandalwood nut products and feels that they have the potential to become the newest ‘superfood’!
A STAR IS BORN!
“What a wonderful surprise to discover there’s even more to the fabulous Santaleuca Sandalwood Nut than their great taste and versatility as a culinary delight! As it turns out, the sandalwood nut contains many remarkable health benefits, with not only significant amounts of dietary fibre and protein, but also very healthful quantities of some of the good oils, the unsaturated, health enhancing type, in particular Omega 9. With these sorts of qualities the sandalwood nut quite rightly deserves to be considered for ‘superfood’ status. It’s no wonder it was, and still is, so highly prized traditionally as a significant choice of food for the Australian aboriginals.
For way too long now in our modern culture, fats have been wrongly demonized. Sure, there are some dodgy fats out there, the kind you’ll find in take-away ‘food’ and many processed products. However, those altered fats are in no way to be confused with the amazing health-giving omegas, as is found within these nutritious nuts.
At last, the message is now coming across loud and clear. Good quality oils are necessary for sound health and prolonged wellbeing by enhancing cardiovascular function, providing improvement to the nervous system and mental acuity, and contributing significantly to healthy eyes, ears, skin, joints and hormones. You’ve probably heard of the Omega 3’s, EPA/DHA, and Omega 6. This might all appear a bit confusing, especially when we introduce yet another, Omega 9. But don’t be at all too concerned, as it’s all good news.
In a nutshell (pardon the pun) the Omega 9 oils in Sandalwood nuts [38%] provide many of those healthy qualities. In particular they have been found to improve heart health by lowering the ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol you may have heard about, whilst raising the ‘good’ cholesterol, the HDL, enhancing protection against heart disease. In addition, Omega 9 has demonstrated an ability to balance blood sugar levels and improve metabolism, thus helping to reduce the risk of Type II Diabetes, and Metabolic Syndrome. Some studies have also found an improvement in Immune Function from the Omega 9 oils, so you can see its an all round good guy, and well worth regular inclusion in your diet.”
We thank Jennifer for this very clear insight into how the Sandalwood nuts high level of Omega 9 oils can be benefitial to many aspects of bodily health!
